Las Fallas is the biggest event in the Valencian calender. People come from all over the world to experience to sights and sounds of this spectacular event which began in the second half of the 19th century.
On 01st March the start of the festival period is announced in front of the town hall, by the 16th the whole city is decorated with symbols and figures. The biggest and most spectacular event is on the 17th and 18th from 4pm until nightfall where there is a multicoloured parade where flowers are offered to the Patron Saint.
On 19th March the dramatic closing event takes place, a massive bonfire is lit and the burning is an act of purification that takes place at midnight on St Joseph's Day.
